WoodsCamp Launches in California

As the dry season rapidly approaches in California, many private woodland owners have the same questions running through their mind. "How do I keep my forest safe from wildfire?" "Are there funding programs available to help me get work done on my land?" and "Where do I start?". WoodsCamp, a tool developed to help private woodland owners find the answers that they need, is now available in California.

Provided by the American Forest Foundation, the WoodsCamp tools are now available in California to help landowners discover options that are right for them. We work with local partners [such as CAL FIRE and California Climate Investments] through the My Sierra Woods collaborative to connect landowners with options to help reduce the risk of wildfire,  increase forest health and the wildlife habitats they provide, or even connecting with a neighbor for advice.

• Funding programs to help cover the cost of having work done on your land, such as thinning, to help reduce the risk of wildfire
• Funding programs to help remove dead trees and restore your forest after a recent burn
• Free advice from a Forest Professional
• Free Forest Management Plan
• Connecting with a peer mentor for local support, advice, and guidance.

How does it work?

WoodsCamp collects and analyzes data which includes forest cover, soil types, wildlife habitats, and wildfire risks. By combining this data with responses from landowners about their goals and values, we match landowners with potential management actions and funding opportunities. These management opportunities are then confirmed by scheduling a walk-through of your land with a local forest professional. We can help you take the guesswork out of knowing what the best option is for your land.
